In the Community

It feels so good to see the sun out earlier in the morning and a little later each evening. That brings composure back to the soul from the months of short days. Next week we will be mulling over whether March came in like a lamb or a lion.

Family Day was enjoyed at Hillcrest Seniors' Centre, Battleford Feb. 18. Thank you, Jon and Thelma, for the perfect family day; you two make a fantastic host and hostess.

Family Fun Day in Paynton was a great success. Feb. 19, the Paynton Volunteer Fire Department and the Village of Paynton hosted a bon fire.

Feb. 13 was Past Honoured Royal Lady Night at the St. Walburg monthly meeting of the Royal Purple. Presiding in the Honoured Royal Lady role was Past Honoured Royal Lady Joan Karst, who brought the meeting to order at 8 p.m.

Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel held its annual Valentine's celebration Feb. 15 at the chapel hall.

The Village of Denholm will celebrate 100 years of incorporation in 2012. The event will be celebrated June 29, 30 and July 1.

Ukrainian Catholic Parish of All Saints in North Battleford welcomed a new parish priest, Rev. Fr. Vladimir Simunovic, Jan. 9. Bishop Bryan Bayda officially installed Fr. Vladimir as the parish priest at a special ceremony Feb. 5. Fr.

There was an enthusiastic gathering of quilters recently at the Don Ross Centre for the regular meeting of the Rivers' Edge Quilters. Some snow birds are still away enjoying sun and sand.

It's winter break this week for students. Enjoy your free time. Some families have gone on holiday, so we hope to catch up to them before next week's news. I was pleased to see some pine grosbeaks feeding in the yard this week.

It's the time of year when 4-H clubs have their public speaking sessions. Bev and Vic Hult attended the Lashburn 4-H Club's speak off held in Lashburn on the afternoon of Feb. 12. Their granddaughter Torrie Chibri was winner in her class.
