While adults complain about the duration and temperatures this winter the students at Ratushniak Elementary School in Maidstone continue to grin and giggle as they enjoy the bounty of snow.

Archeological society preserves history
Each day we look for signs which will tell us the long winter is coming to an end. So far, temperatures have fluctuated from very cold to somewhat warmer. The small snowfalls that occur almost every day are adding up to hug piles in some places.

Bingo was played Feb. 23 at the Maidstone Drop In Centre Feb. with Jean Hartman and Margaret MacEachern calling. Lunch was provided by Dorothy Harmel. The loonie pot was won by Dorothy Kissick. Cirbbage was played Feb. 28.

Firefighter's rally draws 90 sleds
The Borden Volunteer Firefighters held a snowmobile rally March 5. Ninety riders made the 55-mile round trip up to Redberry Lake and back to Borden Hall. Burgers and beverages were sold through the day.

Diabetic earns Joslin Medal
David Gillatt from Maymont has been a Type 1 insulin dependent diabetic for more than 50 years. Dave was recently awarded a Joslin Medal by the Joslin Diabetes Centre in Boston, Mass. The centre is affiliated with the Harvard Medical School.

Chamber hosts tribute to community
March 7, the Unity Chamber of Commerce hosted a "Celebrate Unity" evening with dinner and a comedian. All committees who put on an event in 2010 were invited, as well as those who established new businesses in 2010.
