The night featured Dave R. and Debbie Norman playing a show of Johnny Cash songs through the ages, but Dave was quick to note that despite playing all Cash songs they are not impersonators but simply performing a tribute.

“There’s only one Johnny Cash and one June Carter Cash.”

The concert was held as a fundraiser for the Community Gathering Place with the money going towards a number of upgrades and improvements to the building.

Gathering Place Chairman of the Board, Fran Gasmo Bremner, says they are looking at putting a lift in the building to make it more wheelchair accessible and would also need to make modifications to the bathrooms to make them more accessible as well.

They are also hoping to replace the carpet at the main entrance and hoping to make some upgrades to the downstairs space as well, says Gasmo Bremner.

As such the Gathering Place is looking to raise a total of $100,000 to start making those upgrades a reality, with Gasmo Bremner noting that they could need to raise even more for future upgrades.

The Cash Back concert was a big success for the Gathering Place as they sold out all 140 tickets, and raised $2,145.

Gasmo Bremner said the whole evening went really well noting that in addition to their sell out, the 50/50 draw and the refreshment stand also was a large success.

“It was really good to see and the people just loved the entertainment.”

In addition to the great support from the audience the Gathering Place was also supported by several local businesses who helped pitch in by selling tickets to the event or even offering up raffle prizes that were raffled off during the show, which speaks to the supportive nature of the whole community, says Gasmo Bremner.

“We come from a really great community where you ask for support people are there to lend a helping hand and it’s just amazing.”

Currently there is a thermometer up at the Gathering Place, which tracks to fundraising efforts of the Gathering Place to date, says Gamso Bremner, so anyone can follow along with their efforts.

Cash Back has played in Humboldt a number of times before and Dave says he would not have missed another opportunity to come back to play again.

“The people around Humboldt are very hospitable, they’re down home people, very friendly.”

Dave says that he really enjoyed the show and says that shows like the one in Humboldt keep him going.

“Sometimes I get feeling I’m too old for this, I should hang up my guitar but when you see the crowd here tonight, the people coming in and the response you get it gets in your blood.”

Gasmo Bremner would like to thank everyone for their involvement and support over the course of the evening.
