Summer means music

The Canada Day and City of North Battleford centennial excitement has died down, and many of us are looking to the lakes or our own backyards for a place to enjoy the hot weather forecasted.

The Canada Day and City of North Battleford centennial excitement has died down, and many of us are looking to the lakes or our own backyards for a place to enjoy the hot weather forecasted.

Kids bored already? The Children's Movie program at the North Battleford Library runs every Wednesday from July 3 until Aug. 21. at 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday on the Water with the Battlefords Sailing Club at Meota will run from this week until Aug. 21. There is a guest open house each Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Sailing lessons are to take place July 22 to 26.

A musical weekend is coming up, just right for sitting back in a comfy camp chair and letting the summer season get fully underway.

Friday at the Western Development Museum, there will be live entertainment under the big tent on the centre lawn. Providing the music will be classic rock band Men Without Shame. It's the Mad Hatters Museum Tea Party so expect some prizes for best costume and best hat, a few games and "a full evening of fun that gets curiouser and curiouser!" The doors open at 8 p.m. July 5. "Mad hats" can be purchased at the WDM Gift Shop prior to the event. You can get your tickets there, too, or at Blue Rentals downtown.

If you are a fan of the all-Canadian- talent Carlton Trail Jamboree, you should be interested to know there will be a special 25th anniversary Kick-Off Party Thursday, July 4 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Rabbit Lake. It's for the 19 and over crowd and the featured artist will be Tim Toutant, whose reputation for a country-rocking good time precedes him. You need a separate ticket for this event.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 5, 6 and 7, the music continues as the Carlton Trail Jamboree proper gets underway. Friday is a family-friendly day with the latest word on the entertainment line-up to include Tara and Jenna, Gardner Family Band, Erin Hill, Schiras with Coffee and Scotch, Keller Family Band and Brad Johner and the Johner Boys.

Super Saturday is scheduled to feature Country Sunshine, Rusty Augers, Thirty Aught Six, Jett Run, Trick Ryder, Wyatt, Dixie Hiway, Electric Cattle Company, Donny Parenteau and Dean Brody.

Sassy Sunday's lineup is Mayfair Trio, Elmer Lammedee's tribute to Stompin' Tom, Country Girls and Guys, Christianne Godart, Alee, Jess Moskaluke, Kira Isabella and Canada's first lady of country music, Carroll Baker.

Not going to the jamboree? Maybe you can head to the lake and take in the Meewasinota 30th Annual Craft and Trade Show at the Meota Community Complex on Sunday, July 7. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There's bound to be something there to delight you.
