RED EARTH CREE NATION — A 24-year man died after police found him with stab wounds at a Red Earth Cree Nation home. He was bought to the home, injured, from a large social gathering.

Carrot River RCMP were called to the home on Aug. 21 at around 5:45 a.m.

RCMP said that upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male, later identified as Brett McKay, who had been stabbed. He was declared deceased at the scene by EMS.

Police said their initial investigation revealed McKay was at a large social gathering in an open area, locally referred to as “the reservoir”, in Red Earth Cree Nation during the early morning of Aug. 21 and that he was driven to the home, injured, that same morning.

Carrot River RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South are asking for help from the public.

“Police are asking individuals who saw what happened during that early morning to please come forward and contact police,” said a release from the RCMP. “Finding out what happened to Brett McKay is the priority.”

Anyone with any information can call Carrot River RCMP at 306-768-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
