911 service restored in Spiritwood area

UPDATE 3: Spiritwood RCMP confirms that it is now possible to reach 911 in Spiritwood and in neighbouring areas. Residents in need of police services no longer need to drive to their local detachment.

For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency police services, call your local detachment.

UPDATE 2: SaskTel Support saId  on Twitter at 8:15 Wednesday morning that all services were restored in most surrounding communities, but that Spiritwood residents only had wireless and were asked to make emerency calls only until phone and internet were restored.

UPDATE 1: SaskTel Support says on Twitter that wireless Service has been restored in Spiritwood. Surrounding communities have an ETA of this evening, it said at 3:15 Tuesday, adding, "Phone and Internet Service will be restored in the coming days."

SaskTel says the areas affected are Spiritwood, Mildred, Chitek Lake, Leoville, Shell Lake, Witchekan Lake, Rabbit Lake, Belbutte.

BACKGROUND: Spiritwood RCMP say early Sunday morning, a SaskTel building located in Spiritwood caught on fire. All local SaskTel services - phone, internet and cellular services - have been lost. This affects 911.

The area without services is estimated to be, from Spiritwood:

To the north: up to Chitek Lake;

To the south: down to Rabbit Lake;

To the east: to Debden;

To the west: to be determined.

At the moment, there is no way to reach 911 in the entire area. Residents in need of police services will have to drive to their local detachment.

The time it will take for the services to be restored cannot be determined at this time.
