The first baby in the Battlefords arrived on the morning of Jan. 3 to Larry and Kelly Halstead of Battleford. The baby boy is named William David Charles Halstead. The names have a few layers of meaning.

For Melfort’s mayor, there’s one accomplishment from 2017 that sticks outs: the new Wellness Centre. “It will be significant for people who require medical care in Melfort for years to come,” said Rick Lang .

Two teams are locked in a battle for first at the end of Day 3 of the 2018 Viterra Scotties Women’s Provincials. Both Team Silvernagle and Team Eberle have won five games and lost one. Both teams also won the two games they played on Day 3.

On Dec. 13, the Eks Lodge No. 369 presented Battlefords Residential Services Inc. with a $1,000 donation. Yvonne Nyholt, BRSI chairperson thanked the Elks for their continued support.

A North East School Division school paid $37,025 given as a deposit to a playground equipment supplier that never came back with the goods.

Years from now, people will look back at 2017 as a year that the eyes of the nation focused on the Battlefords.

In honour of the people who go the extra mile for the community, the Citizen of the Year banquet is taking place Friday, Feb. 2 at the Western Development Museum.
