Division won't face amalgamation, new Carrot River school third on list

Melfort is losing its Labour Market Services Office. The office, located within the Cumberland College’s Melfort branch, helps people to find jobs and research labour market conditions. It also helps employers fill positions.

Farmers and ranchers will see around $57.23 million in new expenses thanks to the provincial budget.

The shovels might have been out to celebrate the start of a Wellness Centre in Melfort, but the true beginning of the project was at Stonegate. “We originally wanted to do this concept there,” said Jesse Rudge , a partner with Avatex Devcorp Inc.

Reaction was swift from both the left and right to the 2017 Saskatchewan provincial budget.

The 2017-18 provincial budget features a one per cent increase in the PST, elimination of tax exemptions, increases in various other taxes and a decrease in income taxes. The budget, released March 22, will have to raise $14.

Post-secondary education, libraries, employment services and regional parks will see large cuts, the number of capital projects planned are down, and spending increases for most services just meet inflation.

STC gets the axe

The Tisdale office and transportation building of the North East School Division could be seeing upgrades. The division’s board voted at its March 21 meeting to approve a tender to do the work as long as the price comes below $1.3 million.
