The wildfire situation has escalated to the point where the fires are now within three kilometres of La Ronge. That is the word from officials at the daily media conference call on the situation Monday.

North Battleford is continuing to play its role in housing evacuees during the wildfire crisis going on in the province’s north.

North Battleford RCMP responded to approximately 30 calls for service between 6 a.m. Sunday, July 5 and 6 a.m. Monday, July 6. Sunday • There was a complaint at a residence on the 1500 block of 110th Street at 6:45 p.m.

The Battlefords RCMP responded to approximately 132 calls for service during between 6 a.m. Friday, July 3 and 6 a.m. Sunday, July 5. Friday • Complaint of theft of truck from an address on Clements Drive.

The Battlefords Best Marketplace and Expo is coming back for a third year this fall, and preparations are underway to line up exhibitors. The event is being held Oct. 16, 17 and 18 at the NationsWEST Field House.

Shellbrook RCMP are requesting the public assistance in locating a missing 21-year-old female. Samantha Bird was last seen at her care home at 4 p.m. on July 4. Bird has ties to Prince Albert and Montreal Lake and could be in those areas.

Out of an abundance of caution and due to increased fire activity in the area and the potential risk this presents to the community, starting immediately a general evacuation of residents has been ordered for the Town of La Ronge, the Village of Air
