Voting has already started for the April 4 election.

Advance polls were open Tuesday between 3 and 10 p.m. across the province, and are open for the same hours through to April 1.

On April 2, a Saturday, advance voting hours are noon to 7 p.m.

According to Elections Saskatchewan, you should check your voter information card for locations and keep in mind the voting locations for advance voting may be different than for the election day itself.

You need to bring identification to vote and there are three options for ID. One is a driver’s licence or other government-issued ID with your name, photo and address.

The second option would be to provide two pieces of ID with your name, one of which must also have your address. Elections Saskatchewan gives an example of a health card and a utility bill.  There are numerous options and 50 acceptable documents are listed on the back of the VIC and also at elections.sk.ca/bringID.

A third option is to sign a declaration at the voting station, and a registered voter from your constituency such as a neighbour or roommate, may vouch for you.

Already, it is clear many voters are taking advantage of the early-voting option. Advance polls have been noticeably busy in the Battlefords and reports are of busy advance polling places elsewhere in the province, as well.

Of course the traditional day to vote is election day, April 4. Voting hours on election day are between 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Standard Time.

Once again, your VIC tells you where to vote. Voters are urged to bring your VIC and also to bring ID.

Voting places are also set up in select personal care homes and seniors’ homes around Saskatchewan. Hospital patients are also able to vote in the hospitals they are in April 4, even if it’s not their home constituency.

Applications are now closed to vote in your home (homebound voting) and for absentee voting.
