B.C. man accused of attempted fraud

North Battleford RCMP responded to 28 calls for service between 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 and 6 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 28.

Members arrested four people for alcohol related offences and responded to two false 911 calls, two alarms, one traffic investigation, two other minor collisions reported, one Mental Health Act investigation, two reported missing persons, who have since been located, and one other minor disturbance call.

Tuesday

• Two-vehicle collision on 6th Avenue reported at noon. No injures, one vehicle did sustain significant damage and had to be towed from scene. Charges have been laid against one driver under the Traffic Safety Act for disobeying a stop sign.

• Shoplifting complaint from a business on Railway Avenue East at 1:50 p.m. Suspect described as a Caucasian male, mid 30s, with facial hair, unkept appearance, average height and wearing a green and white varsity style jacket and light coloured pants.

• Shoplifting complaint from a business on the 1000 block of 101st Street at 2:22 p.m. Suspect fled after theft and not located. Described as being a First Nation male, mid 20s, wearing a black winter parka with black shoes, black shirt with a white logo on the left side and a black hat with white logo. He had a mustache.

• Call of a disturbance in a parking lot on the 900 block of 101st Street at 2:47 p.m. The women located were accusing each other of assault. Neither party injured and both know one another. Investigation ongoing.

• Report of a break and enter to a residence on Trudeau Street, believed to have occurred sometime between noon and 3:30 p.m. A suspect has been identified and charges are currently pending.

• Report of a theft of cheques from a residence on Meighen Crescent made at 3:30 p.m.. Suspect identified and investigation ongoing.

• A 29-year-old man from British Columbia arrested on Railway Avenue East after a failed attempt at defrauding at least two businesses in the city. The male attended the businesses with modified receipts that claimed he had paid several hundred dollars for items that are worth only a few dollars. At one location he attempted to return markers he claimed to have paid hundreds of dollars for. His attempts were not successful. The accused is facing two charges of fraud and two of possession of a forged document. He remains in custody and will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court Wednesday. At the time of his arrest he had numerous other similarly modified receipts from other businesses. 

• At 10:42 p.m. received a report of someone attempting to break into a residence on St. Laurent Drive. Complainant stating someone was rattling the doorknob, but did not damage the door to an apartment before leaving. No description of suspect provided.

Wednesday

• Charges of breach of probation pending on a 26-year-old man after a curfew check on Winder Crescent shortly after 1:30 a.m.
