The Snow Angels program is off to a strong start in North Battleford, according to city officials.

The program is a feel-good recognition program designed to encourage neighbours to help out neighbours by shovelling their sidewalks this winter. It encourages healthy and willing residents to clear snow particularly for elderly residents or those with health and mobility issues.

Grateful neighbours are letting the City know about those good deeds by nominating individuals as Snow Angels.

The city has received 24 Snow Angel nominations since the program was launched at the end of October.

"We are receiving testimonials every other day demonstrating just how kind people are being to their neighbours," North Battleford Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator Mike Halstead said in a news release.

All nominees receive a "thank you" certificate in the mail signed by Mayor Ian Hamilton. As well, each month nominated individuals are entered into a monthly draw for a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of the City of North Battleford.

Helena Maroney was drawn as the November winner. She was nominated as a Snow Angel by her neighbour Jean Pawlus, who said "I am 73 years old and I have some leg and back issues. I had been told that I should not be shovelling! I was out there (shovelling) and Helena arrived - definitely my Snow Angel."

You can nominate a Snow Angel by e-mailing mhalstead@cityofnb.ca. You can also mail in the nomination or drop it off at City Hall at 1291-101st St.
