Rockin' H Multiple 4-H Club of Hafford held their first speech event Feb. 2, at the Hafford Seniors' Centre. The members enjoyed sharing their stories and experiences with their friends, family and judges.

The judges were Linda Paulow, Ron Tkachuk, Diane Jones and Diane Kieper, the timers were Bibianne Tkachuk along with Christine Gonda.

The afternoon was split into two sections, 10 speeches, intermission, and then nine more speeches.

First to speak were six juniors with Keanna Svendsen-Striga starting off with her funny tale of horseback riding adventures. Lane Dubyk told of finding a record book buck skeleton and Cabri Tanchuk gave a passionate speech about Ukrainian dance and Kyle Svendsen-Striga talked about his adventures in Mexico.

Rayna Yasieniuk explained how her kitten got the name "Woosa."

The first intermediate to speak was Riley Yasieniuk who spoke about how he protects us all from the "monsters" out in the woods. Baylie Yasieniuk's speech was about her trip of a lifetime to the NFR last year and Tara Dishko gave an inspirational talk on courage. Lucas Lafreniere entertained with his stories about his band, Dukes Underfire.

During a 15-minute intermission members and their guests snacked on a wonderful assortment of food and drinks brought by the families.

The first of the cute Clovebuds to speak was Morgan Dubyk who talked about becoming a "real" cowgirl. Jessica Rice described what she would ask for if she had three wishes. Hailey Prystupa told a story about her bunny named Casey and Kara Halliwell and talked about her wonderful trip to Disneyland. After these littlest ones were done it was back to another group of juniors.

Ty Dubyk told a fun hunting story and Kendra Lafreniere passed on a whole bunch of interesting facts about the Vikings. Madison Flath gave an entertaining description of her dog Ginge and Michelle Beam gave another funny animal speech on her cat named Shyster. The club's newest member, Mitchell Tanchuk, spoke about hunting with his brother and dad.

The judges and guests heard a total of 19 speeches. Two members - Bryan Toews and Codie Yasieniuk - had to miss the day. The judges had a hard time deciding on medals. Each age category had thre medals, plus there was a " judges' choice" trophy to be awarded to the member who delivered a stand out speech that the judges had to agree on. Every judge spoke after about how fantastic each speech was, and gave the members credit for doing such a great job.

Results were: Cloverbuds, first - Jessica, second- Kara, third- Hailey; juniors first - Rayna, second- Cabri, third- Alicia; intermediate first - Tara, second- Riley, third- Baylie.

The judges' choice trophy was awarded to Rayna Yasieniuk.

The top two members of each category have the opportunity to share their speeches with more people. District 34public speakingcompetition will be held at Fort Battleford at 1 p.m. on March 9.

Good luck to all participants of every club at the next level.
