As part of the national Curves open house last week, the Humboldt Curves hosted a business expo in its parking lot to highlight home-based businesses on Sept. 19.
Organizer Danielle Saretsky spent two months contacting businesses and promoting the event, and ended up with about 20 vendors to show off their wares.
"Actually it's more than what I expected," Saretsky said. "I feel very overwhelmed. It's good. It's great that there was so much support for it and that a lot of people wanted to come out and do it."
Most of the 20 businesses were local, but there was one from Melville and one from Manitoba. In addition to businesses vendors, there was a food vendor selling burgers.
Most of the businesses are home-based and Saretsky hoped that the business owners got exposure they wouldn't otherwise have by not having a public store.
"The purpose is to help home-based businesses and to draw traffic to the open house," she said.
Saretsky also credited community support with helping to make the event a success, saying that people heard about the event and then told their friends.
"The reaction was very positive," she said. "A lot of people jumped up very quickly as soon as we put it out there."
