CUMBERLAND HOUSE CREE NATION — Three men have been charged in relation to a June 2 firearms discharge investigation on Cumberland House Cree Nation. A 22-year-old male from Prince Albert died during the incident that resulted in RCMP issuing a civil emergency alert.
During the course of the investigation, officers located a restricted firearm and a quantity of cocaine. As a result, three males have been charged.
A 24-year-old man from Cumberland House has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of restricted weapon, possession of restricted firearm with ammunition without a licence, fail to comply with an undertaking and fail to comply with release order. He has been remanded into custody until his next appearance in Cumberland House Provincial Court on June 14.
A 20-year-old man from Cumberland House has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He will make his next appearance in Cumberland House Provincial Court on July 19.
A 25-year-old man from Prince Albert has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He has been remanded into custody until his near appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court on June 13.
As previously released, a 22-year-old male was located injured during this incident and was later declared deceased. Moose Jaw Police Service is currently conducting the independent, external investigation required when an incident involves a death or serious injury.
A previous release also stated four people were taken into custody during the event to which the Saskatchewan RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team responded.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Provincial General Investigation Section officers, with the assistance of other Saskatchewan RCMP units, continue to investigate the other aspects of the incident.
