Saturday afternoon, the skies around North Battleford were filled with a smoky haze, the reason once again was a grass fire fed by dry and windy conditions across the Northwest.

North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services responded quickly to a grass fire in the ditch along Highway 16 about 10 km from North Battleford.

Traffic was slowed, while the fire crews got the blaze under control. The fire started on the right side of the highway heading southeast towards Saskatoon.

The blaze jumped the highway and also started the ditch between the double lane highways on fire.

The grass fire stretched for .5 km while firefighters were able to control the blaze and douse hot spots, as they were on scene for more than an hour.
