Garage sales are now allowed under the Reopen Saskatchewan plan.
The province announced the change of policy July 21, effective that day. Door-to-door sales and canvassing has also been allowed.
“Like just about everything else, these activities are going to look quite a bit different than they did a few months ago,” said Scott Moe, Saskatchewan’s premier, at a media conference July 21.
Those garage saling should attend sales individually wherever possible, avoid handling items unless necessary and not go if they feel unwell.
For those hosting garage sales, the province is asking residents to follow these guidelines:
- The number of people can’t exceed the limits set by provincial health orders. Right now, that’s 30 people.
- Don’t host a sale if you feel unwell.
- Wash hands often and consider providing an alcohol-based Health Canada approved hand sanitizer for all attendees.
- Maintain a physical distance of two metres between individuals. Post signs to inform people of this fact.
- Sales should be held outdoors. At a minimum, they can be in a well-ventilated area like a garage with opened doors and windows.
- Only one sale per household. No garage sales made up of groups are allowed.
- Clean and disinfect tables and sale items prior to the sale.
- Clothing or other fabric items should be laundered prior to the sale.
- Minimize physical contact with attendees.
- No food or drink items can be given or sold.
- Ensure hands are washed or sanitized after handling money. Accept cashless payment if possible.
