Grad: No way to define Arborfield’s grads

Good evening parents, staff, friends, and our fellow graduates. We are truly honoured to be your valedictorians of 2018.

Good evening parents, staff, friends, and our fellow graduates. We are truly honoured to be your valedictorians of 2018. We would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone that came to celebrate our big day with us, it’s hard to believe we are standing here on this stage today marking the end of our high school journey. When trying to think of a word to describe our class, we couldn’t think of anything, because Webster’s dictionary has not yet made a word to define our rambunctious group. For a class of seven kids, we have a wide variety of personalities, that makes our class one of a kind.

This year we chose the theme, “if you dream it, you can do it”, which we believe is very fitting for our class. Everyone on this stage shows great determination, confidence and strength that will help them pursue their future endeavors. With our amazing qualities, we can take on any challenge that lies ahead. Even though our quote is “If you dream it, you can do it”, we’d like to speculate on where these fine individuals will end up in the next few years.

Marc and Tristin joined us in grade 7, but it feels like we have been together since the start. When we first met Marc, he was very shy and timid. Little did we know he would become the loudest person in the class.

Tristin keeps school very interesting, with his humour and ability to find the funniest videos on YouTube. By the way, have you ever actually done any work during online classes? Even though Tristin doesn’t seem like he gets a lot of work done in school, when he finds something he loves he excels at it. With his passion and hard work, he can do anything he sets his mind to.

Shayla is one of the original members of our class. From day one, she has always been very dedicated to succeed in everything she does, including school and dance. From putting in countless hours of practicing and studying, we can easily see that her hard work has paid off.

Lauren joined us in Grade 5 and we knew right from the start she was a bookworm. She showed an exciting personality and vivid imagination both on and off the playground. She brought her great enthusiasm with her all throughout high school, which made class very adventurous. Everyone knows Lauren loves horses, but what some people might not realize is Lauren also loves to tell stories – about anything.

Since Kindergarten, Sarah always seemed to be the sweet, innocent one, that has always had a great love for anything Disney. One of Sarah’s best qualities is her big heart and kindness. She truly cares about everyone and every animal.. and does her best in everything. With her great effort she can tackle any challenge thrown in her way.

Emma also started Kindergarten with me. Emma is a very competitive person which has led her to challenge herself when it comes to anything with food. This is why I think that Emma could be a competitive hot dog eater and not just excel but take the whole hotdog eating world by storm. This competitiveness hasn’t just helped her in eating though, as she has done great in many activities such as sports and sports and more sports.

Evan has a great love for arguing, which is why I can easily see Evan pursuing a career as a lawyer. When Evan believes he is right, he will fight and argue about the topic until someone says he is. Evan has always had a talent for solving some of the hardest problems in the simplest ways, and he has always been kind-hearted. Evan has a ton of great qualities that will help him out in the future, even though when he is out in public a lot of the times he looks like he has no idea where he is or what he is doing.

Even though our class has many skills and talents, we would not be here today without the help of our family, friends, and teachers. These people are the ones who had to deal with our shenanigans and non-sense. You were the ones that were with us through our best and our worst, and inspired us to be the best that we could be. We cannot thank you enough for the countless hours you spent shaping us into the legends we are today. As for our class, we couldn’t be happier to have spent our last high school years together. We wouldn’t want to be up here with anyone else. We are much more than just classmates and friends, we are a family. Although we haven’t  been together since the beginning, it has definitely been a wild ride to the end.

This valediction speech has been edited and condensed for space.
