A graduation celebration on Pelican Lake First Nation has taken a tragic twist as Spiritwood RCMP investigate the death of a 23-year-old man.

RCMP are calling the death a homicide and have arrested an 18-year-old on the First Nation in relation to the death.

Police say Pelican Lake youth were celebrating graduation when RCMP were called to an open field on the First Nation Saturday at about 6:30 a.m. It was reported an altercation had occurred and an unconscious man was found. EMS efforts to revive the man with CPR were unsuccessful.

An autopsy will be scheduled, police say, and names of the deceased and the individual arrested have not yet been released.

RCMP Forensic Identification Unit out of North Battleford and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit North are assisting with the investigation.
