GrainsConnect Canada announced this week they are locating their fourth independent and high-throughput grain terminal in Huxley, Alberta.
Huxley is located 120km northeast of Calgary, Alberta.
According to the company’s news release this week, the new terminal will look similar to the others the company is building, including a terminal in Maymont that is currently under construction. The Maymont terminal is expected to be up and in production in the fall of 2017.
The Huxley project will be a state-of-the-art 35,000 tonne grain terminal with the ability to load 134 rail cars in under 14 hours. It will also be the first site in the region with the 134-car rail loop, which the company touts as increasing efficiency and reliability to growers in the area.
It will be served by the CN railway, which will transport the grain across their network.
“As we continue to invest in new facilities and deliver a competitive edge to Canadian growers, we are seeing strong support for our network,” said GrainsConnect Canada President Warren Stow in a statement.
“We will have two sites in Saskatchewan and two in Alberta, offering choice and access to one of the most efficient supply chains to the West Coast.”
As with the other sites, 50 jobs will be created during construction of the Huxley project and there will be 12 to 15 full time jobs once completed.
The Huxley terminal is subject to necessary approvals, but the plan is for construction to start this summer and it is expected to be completed by 2019.
GrainsConnect Canada is a strategic joint venture between GrainCorp of Australia and Zen-Noh Grain Corporation of Japan.
The Maymont terminal has been under construction since July of 2016 and at last report that project is on schedule, with construction of the 134-car loop being the latest stage of the project.
In addition to Maymont, the RM of Reford, near Wilkie, is the other Saskatchewan site where a GrainsConnect terminal is to be located. Vegreville is the other Alberta location. Both are expected to be operational by mid-2018.
