A 100 metre long drift, that is 60 centimetres (two feet) deep is stranding motorists on Highway 17 north of Lloydminster in the Jumbo Hill/Alcurve area.
Maidstone RCMP say the massive drift has trapped motorists travelling in both directions.
The Department of Highways is on scene and is attempting to remove the drift, but due to the high winds and blowing snow, it is anticipated that this area will blow in again, until the storm dissipates and the winds die down. In light of this, the Department of Highways has closed Highway 17 north of Alcurve to Onion Lake.
Maidstone RCMP say is still not recommended. Driving conditions are poor, with heavy winds, blowing snow and poor visibility. Roads north and south are brutal, with roads east and west being poor.
RCMP say updates will be provided during this storm, but recommend travellers check the Highway Hotline often if considering heading out on the highways.
