Apr. 19 was a busy day for the Humboldt Fire Department as they were called out to a pair of fires.
The fire department received a call around 9:30am to attend a house fire on Swain Cres.
Humboldt Fire Department Deputy Chief Darrell Wickenhauser says the fire started at the front of the house on the exterior near an electrical outlet and quickly spread into the roof.
When the fire department arrived on scene flames were coming through the roof of the house.
The fire department managed to contain the fire saving a lot of personal valuables in the interior of the house. The fire swept through the roof of the house but did not enter
the interior of the house, which only sustained water damage, says Wickenhauser.
The department sent six fire units and 16 members to combat the fire. Wickenhauser estimates they were on scene for approximately three hours and they wrapped up the call by approximately 12:30pm.
While the fire department was at the hall cleaned the trucks and getting them ready for the next call, it came in just after 1pm. They were called to attend a transport truck fire on highway 5 east of Muenster.
The truck was carrying hazardous material so the department needed to identify the product and contain it.
When the department arrived on scene they quickly contained the fire to the front of the truck.
Five units and 12 members were sent to the scene.
Wickenhauser reminds people that are doing a controlled burn to call the fire department at their new controlled burn number at 1-866-404-4911.
