TISDALE — The Tisdale RCMP responded to five motor vehicle collisions in a two week period that were all connected to drivers interacting with stop signs.

“We got a lot of intersection-related collisions, people proceeding from stop signs before it is safe to do so or failing to stop,” said Cpl. Mike Benjamin. “That continues to be a leading problem in our area.”

Benjamin said these collisions were not related to a specific problematic intersection.

“You just got to take your time and pay attention to the rules of the road,” he said. “These are all just people proceeding before it was safe to do so. Either misjudging the distance or even failing to recognize there was a vehicle coming.”

In some of these cases the detachment has pressed charges.

Over the two week period from June 19 to July 3 the detachment had 76 calls for service. Among them were three assault complaints, two impaired drivers, one person reported missing who was later located and three fraud complaints.

“The fraudulent calls are still coming in, people have to be careful with the information they release,” Benjamin said.
