Battlefords Tourism and Convention Association plans a reception on March 19 at the Tropical Inn.

The information reception takes place at 7:30 p.m. and will focus on the ways that organizations can get assistance in hosting or attracting major events to the community. The invitation is extended to all sporting, community or fraternal organizations that have an interest in hosting a provincial or regional event.

Local organizations are encouraged to meet with representatives from Battlefords Hotels Association and the Battlefords Tourism and Convention Association, and learn about financial and other support for event bids and hosting.

"A single sporting tournament or conference brings significant economic benefits to the Battlefords," says BTCA Executive Director Ryan Bater in a statement.

"We are encouraging more provincial and regional events to be hosted here. We have the facilities, we have the organizations, and thanks to the new Destination Marketing Fund we now have the financial means to assist with event bids."

The Destination Marketing Fund was introduced in April 2012.

A one per cent levy is assessed on all hotel rooms sold by the members of the Battlefords Hotels Association, and is used to support tourism marketing and event/convention hosting through BTCA.Included in the BHA are the Tropical Inn and Convention Centre, Gold Eagle Lodge, Super 8, Best Canadian Motor Inn, Jackfish Lodge and Travelodge.

The goal, said Bater, is "to use our resources to attract new events and enhance existing events in the Battlefords, and all organizations with an interest in doing that are welcome to attend."

Those interested are asked to RSVP with Battlefords Tourism by calling 306-445-2000.
