Man accused of sexual assault remanded until prelim

A man accused of two charges of sexual assault and sexual interference involving a minor has elected to be tried in Queen's Bench Court by judge alone. David Smith appeared in provincial court before Judge Dan O'Hanlon on Wednesday.

David Smith appeared in provincial court before Judge Dan O'Hanlon on Wednesday.

He will remain remanded in custody by consent until a preliminary hearing scheduled for March in provincial court.

Counsel has agreed to the dates of March 1 through 4 for a preliminary hearing. The week of May 16 has been reserved as alternate dates.

In addition to the sexual assault and sexual interference charges, Smith also faces two charges of indecent acts with intent to offend and one count of indecent exposure in front of a minor. Smith is also charged with furnishing tobacco and alcohol to minors and of unlawfully trafficking a controlled substance.

The offences are alleged to have taken place in Battleford between June 2009 and June 2010.
