A man who escaped custody while appearing in Meadow Lake Provincial Court was denied bail on June 7.

Christopher Gilbert Ernest, 23, had escaped custody on April 26 when he was appearing in court on numerous charges including resisting arrest, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unauthorized possession of a weapon, assault with weapon and failing to attend court.

On May 4, Saskatchewan RCMP and Edmonton Police arrested Ernest in Edmonton. Christopher Michael Nolan, 21, from Lloydminster and Raheem Hagan, 20, of Meadow Lake were also arrested.

The three were staying together at the West Edmonton Mall Inn and were wanted on warrants on separate incidents in Saskatchewan. Hagan was wanted in connection to an April 13 incident in Meadow Lake where police say a car was shot at. Nolan was wanted for a shooting in Meadow Lake in January.

Hagan appears next on June 14. Nolan has a show cause hearing scheduled on June 28. Ernest is scheduled to appear on July 12 to enter a plea.

The charges against Hagan, Ernest, and Nolan haven’t been proven in court.

Saskatchewan RCMP Inspector Murray Chamberlain said the January and April incidents were gang-related and involved illegally obtained firearms.

If anyone has information about these incidents, including details about any of the individuals involved, they are encouraged to report it to Meadow Lake RCMP at 306-236-2570 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS -8477.
