EAST CENTRAL — In the wake of new provincial health measures, the North East School Division is requiring masks for all staff and students when inside a school and on a bus.
The rules include Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3 students, who were previously exempt. They go into effect Monday, Nov. 30.
“These new masking policies from Saskatchewan's Chief Medical Health Officer apply to all indoor locations, including where you are able to physically distance,” said Don Rempel, the division’s director or education, in a letter.
“This means that students and staff should be encouraged to keep masks on during all times of day, with the exception of when eating or drinking.”
The new masking rules are intended for indoor public spaces, but Rempel said masking is recommended in all settings where two metres of physical distancing cannot be maintained, which could include recess and other outdoor activities.
“I sincerely thank students, staff and families of the North East School Division for their continued efforts to take steps to mitigate against the risks of this pandemic.”
