MELFORT — A Melfort Mustangs player has tested positive for COVID-19.

“The player and the close contacts have been identified and contacted by the local public health office and have been advised to self isolate,” said a release from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Sept. 25. “The case and contact protocols and guidelines set by the Saskatchewan Health Authority were followed and are being followed. There has been limited contact in the community.”

The City of Melfort said in a release sent the same day it is suspending activities in the Northern Lights Palace Arena and Kerry Vickar Centre to allow time for enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols.

Scheduled activities will start up again at the Kerry Vickar Centre on Saturday, Sept. 26 and the Northern Lights Palace Arena on Monday, Sept. 28.

The city added that once activities recommence, the public will be advised that by using these facilities, they are doing so at their own risk. They said they are making that declaimer due to the litigious actions of users of public facilities elsewhere in the province.
