As the City of North Battleford continues its process to annex land around the Saskatchewan Hospital area, they have now moved forward with an agreement with the rural municipality for services in the area.

At council Monday, the city approved a memorandum of understanding with the RM of North Battleford for services regarding road, fire and development. This MOU covers the former Crown colony grounds area around the hospital that is currently in the process of being annexed by the city from the RM.

Responsibility for all roads, fire and development on that 350-acre area of land will now shift to the city.

The idea behind the agreement is to ease the transition of the land from RM to the city and also eliminate a lot of confusion regarding the city’s and RM’s responsibilities there. City Manager Randy Patrick explained to council this agreement would get rid of the issues about “who does what roads and who does fire services,” and so on.

The MOU has previously been signed by the RM and needed city approval for ratification.

The annexation process for the land itself is currently underway and expected to take a year to complete.
