Humboldt’s New Year’s baby arrived on the evening of Jan. 7 to proud parents, Pamela and Joey Adam.
Gavin is 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 22.5 inches long.
28-year-old Aquatic Centre manager Pamela and 31-year-old miner Joey have a two-year-old daughter, Georgia, who apparently is excited about having a little brother.
“She loves babies,” Pamela said.
Gavin was almost an actual New Year’s baby: he was over a week late.
The whole labour process was very quick: it began at 1 p.m. on Jan. 7 and was done by 5:46, which Joey says is “like night and day” compared to the birth of their daughter.
“It was a lot quicker,” Pamela said.
That’s not the only difference. Georgia was born in Saskatoon, but the couple said they preferred the experience in Humboldt, saying the bigger hospital is a lot busier.
“The staff doesn’t have enough time to interact with you like they do here. It’s just not as personable there,” Joey said.
Pamela and baby Gavin could have gone home on Jan. 8, but decided to stay in the hospital until Jan. 9 because they would have to come back in to get his bloodwork done anyway.
Both parents are feeling great.
“No complaints here,” Joey said, although he admits that the cot that was set up for him in the room was not the greatest.
Pamela is taking some time off to care for the children and will be returning to the Aquatic Centre next January.
“The staff was great … it’s been much more enjoyable here,” Pamela said.
