NIPAWIN — Council pay will be staying the same over the next term, with the exception of an allowance used to pay for some trip expenses.
Barry Elliott, the town’s administrator, brought the item to the council at its meeting on Sept. 28 based on the work of the 2020 Council Remuneration Review Committee.
While stipends for mayor and council will remain around status quo, $25,500 and $13,000 respectively per year, Elliott said the per diem compensation used to pay for trip expenses like meals has increased slightly to become comparable to other communities.
“When the committee looked across the board at a number of comparable municipalities, they certainly fit well within the range.”
The mayor for the next council will receive $130 to $200 per full day and $69.50 to $100 per half day per diem with councillors receiving $130 to $160 per full day and $69.50 to $80 per diem.
The committee consisted of Elliott at the helm and three anonymous community members.
