NIPAWIN — A new noise bylaw aims to clear up some confusing, ambiguous language.
“Truly, the noise bylaw still has the same provisions in terms of quiet times through the night, that sort of thing. It provides a little more clarity what’s exempted under the bylaw,” said Barry Elliott, the town's administrator. “Council doesn’t want to be so restrictive that people can’t operate a business or do things in their yard or anything like that.”
One change allows all trucks under one ton to be left running for more than 30 minutes. The previous bylaw, passed in 1999, made it so all trucks with diesel motors could not be left running for more than 30 minutes.
“I have a half-ton truck, a lot of people do. They park them out in front of their residences, they get them started in the morning to warm up,” Elliott said. “The language you see there, it was recognized it was a little too broad, so we defined it a little differently.”
This change was enacted during the Jan. 14 council meeting.
