Severe thunderstorms developed in southeastern Saskatchewan late Thursday afternoon to the evening due to a trough of low pressure. The weather, however, did not cause any major damage at the Battlefords Provincial Park.

According to Provincial Park, Culture, and Sport Marketing and Communications Executive Director Brooke Lochbaum the storm affected the Battlefords Provincial Park but people who were camping remained in their campsites. No campers were evacuated, according to park conservation officers.

Lochbaum added the park remained open.

“The lessee that operates the inflatable waterpark closed down as the storm rolled in and they evacuated the waterpark for visitor safety. There were some trees that came down during the storm, but there was no significant damage to any camping units or park structures.”

Wind gusts reach as highed as 63 kilometres per hour while temperatures reached as high as 34 degrees and lows of 8 degrees Celsius.
