The board of North Saskatchewan River Health Holdings was told at a regular meeting March 26 that one of three physicians working through the assessment and immigration processes may arrive to serve the Northwest clinics by the end of May.
Another physician will also be arriving at that time, but must complete the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment process from May to August.
The board members say they are hopeful that, as the program is opening up to new countries, they will be more successful in recruiting physicians.
Dr. Shoaib was away from the practice April 10 to 13 for holidays. A Saskatchewan Medical Association locum served the clinics March 26 to April 2.
The board is working on accessing more locum services for the rest of April and into May.
Health Holdings appreciates the support of North Battleford and Maidstone clinics have provided to the St. Walburg and Edam clinics. "They have been a big help to our residents needing clinic services," a press release states.
Dr. Shoaib will not be renewing his contract and will be leaving the end of June.
"The board is very sad to see him and his family move on and wish to thank him for his many years of dedicated service to our community," according to the release.
Lakeland Community Health Advisory Network held a health information event March 24 in Turtleford. Health Holdings supported the initiative with an information both. The administrator reported the event was informative with speakers on various health issues.
"The board wishes to thank the CHAN group for their efforts in hosting this worthwhile event."
The next meeting will be April 16 at 7:30 pm. in the RM of Mervin office in Turtleford.
