Presentation targets women as recruits to RCMP

The RCMP F Division recruiting team has been holding events to encourage women to consider careers in policing.

The next event is Feb. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the University of Saskatchewan.

"The Royal Canadian Mounted Police offers a challenging and exciting career to those interested in making a difference in their communities and their country," says Cst. Amy Forbes of RCMP Recruiting F Division in a news release.

"We're looking for people from all walks of life to join Canada's national police service."

Wednesday's two-hour event will feature female police officers from different sections within the RCMP. Recruiters will conduct a PowerPoint presentation and all members in attendance will share their own career experiences and stories.

Women who attend this special will have the opportunity to hear from a cross-section of female RCMP members and, "those who attend will gain an understanding of what it's like to be a police officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police." Forbes explains.

"The RCMP offers more than 150 different types of duties, so regardless of a person's background, there is a career for everyone who becomes a member of our prestigious organization."

Anyone interested in learning more about a career with the RCMP can register for the presentation by calling 1-877-RCMP-GRC (1-877-726-7472).

Those applying to the RCMP must be Canadian citizens, 19 years or older of good character, proficient in English or French, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must also possess a valid Canadian driver's license and meet medical/health standards.
