The city has been tasked to look into addressing the slumping in the road on Douglas Avenue.
The issue came up at city council April 9, when Councillor Brad Pattinson brought it up as an inquiry.
He asked if there was something in the budget to address the slumping issues. Public works director Stewart Schafer says there is money available to deal with the issue.
Pattinson suggested the slumping had to do with the sub-base and was not an asphalt issue. Schafer confirmed that. Most likely, the slumping is due to issues with the settlement where they dug the sewer and water line over the years, he said.
"They're going to have to get in there and answer those," Schafer responded.
Pattinson acknowledged it would be an expensive undertaking to fix the issue, but suggested starting over the next few years getting at least a couple of the slumps addressed, which would involve cutting up the asphalt and redoing the base.
"Then over the years we can get them all done," said Pattinson.
