Progress continues on the CUPlex site as more items continue to be put in place each week at the facility.
That is based on the report of Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson, who once again gave an update to council on the progress of the four components still under construction.
His report proved to be the main item of business for council at Monday's meeting at city hall in North Battleford. Anderson's report was based on a Feb. 2 site meeting.
At the theatre component, the concrete terracing in the seating area should be finished, Anderson said. As well, millwork has gone ahead with dressing rooms, box office and the bar areas. So "that whole area looks a bit different," said Anderson.
A new electrical crew was brought in and was set to resume with a full crew Feb. 6. The electrical work was delayed due to manpower issues involving the subcontractor. Drywall work had to end for a time while the electrical work is completed.
There have been no further delays to the theatre construction, and the substantial completion date for the theatre remains set at April 30.
At the aquatic centre, the last of the concrete had been poured on the deck, Anderson noted, and the tiling for the project has gone smoothly. The towers for the slides were also going up and the slides have been delivered to the site, Anderson said.
However, there is still considerable work to be done there and the completion date has been pushed back another 30 days. The aquatic centre is now estimated to be substantially completed April 30.
The curling rink construction continues to advance, Anderson noted. The rink is now completely closed in and installation of the running track at the field house continues. A pedway that would provide a link between the two buildings has also been installed. June 15 is still the completion date for the curling rink and the field house is still estimated to be done by Sept. 15.
Mayor Ian Hamilton also noted during the meeting that he anticipates the provincial banner for the winning Scott Manners team that is going to the Brier will be raised at the new facility once it opens up, likely as part of the opening ceremonies.
The mayor was at the sendoff event at Battleford Curling Club for the team, which won the provincial curling title the previous week in Assiniboia.
The other piece of business related to the CUPlex that was dealt with Monday was council's rubber-stamping of the names of the two members representing city council on the arm's length board of directors for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts.
A resolution was passed authorizing Councillor Grace Lang and Hamilton to sit on the board of directors, representing city council on the nine-member board.
