The fallout from the Colten Boushie shooting death near Biggar continues, with news this week that an RM councillor has resigned.
Ben Kautz, a councillor from the RM of Browning No. 34 located in southeast Saskatchewan, got in trouble for posting about the shooting on the Saskatchewan Farmers’ Facebook site. Of the accused Gerald Stanley, now charged with second-degree murder, he had stated “in my mind his only mistake was leaving witnesses.”
This week the RM confirmed Kautz had resigned. A statement on their website reads: “The RM of Browning No. 34 hereby acknowledges receipt of the resignation of Councillor Ben Kautz as councillor of Division No. 4. (as per section 96 of the Municipalities Act). The council of the RM of Browning No. 34 thanks Mr. Kautz for his years of dedicated service to the RM as well as his volunteering on several boards, committees and associations of the community.”
