There was shenanigans galore at the Humboldt Golf Club as the Play at HGC returned for their performance of Blue Hairs, Financial Scares, and Double Dares.
Original golf course player and playwright, Dave Hill, says the players are made up of people who want to support the golf club and who enjoy getting together to put on the shows.
Hill wrote the script for the 2017 production with everyone getting in on making tweaks and contributing quips and jokes to the final script.
“Once we start working with them with the group, it changes. We all have our contributions into it.”
Writing the production means creative freedom when it comes to making the play as local as they want with many jokes regarding members of the community, including Mayor Rob Muench, former mayor Malcolm Eaton, who was in the play, and different locations around Humboldt.
Considering Hill is inspired by the people and places around Humboldt when writing the play, it is only fitting that members make an appearance or get a little bit of a friendly joke at their expense.
The production tells the story of a group of seniors who are being gouged by their condominium fees, most of which are ploys to line the pockets of the condominium staff.
Catching onto the evil plot leads to plottings of their own for the seniors who plan to get back at the people taking advantage of them with many funny twists and turns.
According to Hill, this was the tenth production care of the golf club players over the span of 16 years with money going towards the golf club.
“The money all goes to on course and club house improvements and things like that.”
While members of the acting crew are not always golf enthusiasts, they get together because they love to act with many members of the club volunteering in other ways.
“The underlying theme is always fun and we just have a really good time.”
