Another fun and busy summer has come and gone for the Reigning Riders Light Horse 4-H Club.
Achievement day was held May 31 near Hafford. Nancy Kotelko was the record books judge.
June 8 was the regional show in North Battleford. Thank you to the organizers and sponsors this show is always a lot of fun. Danika Diceman and Rayna Yasieniuk moved on with record books at the regional level. Danika's book actually recieved a mark of 100 per cent at the N.B. show. Good luck at provincials.
The end of June the club hosted a Northwest Regional Judging Clinic at Rafter Y Ranch near Hafford. This clinic is geared to members and leaders to come and learn about specific livestock species. Participants learn how to judge conformation, fill out judging cards properly, and how to present oral reasons to a judge. It is open to all members across Saskatchewan. The club had 40 members attend plus leaders, parents, and four special guests.
Because the ranch is located in Redberry Biosphere delegates often come to have a look at the ranching practises. The ranch hosted visitors that day from Japan. They were so excited about the 4-H judging clinic they rescheduled part of their trip so they could come and learn along with all the 4-Hers!
Appreciation to the judges/volunteers that day - Daniel Blais, Kelsey Dust, Ryan and Sara Archdekin, Tracy Willms and Lee Walerius,. Thanks also to Doug Herring and Prairieland for sponsoring us. Visitors were Kenji Kitamura and Reiko Omoto. John Kindrachuk and Tory brought the guests and explained to the 4-Hers what the biosphere reserve is all about.
Next was the 4-H showcase in Saskatoon where members spent four days showing, racing and judging. It was the club's first time taking horses to this big show. They had a great time being together and met some new friends, Rayna Yasieniuk and Dewberry won the high point gymkhana buckle.
July 22-24 was the third annual Camp ACE (aquatics, crafts, equestrian). The club was awarded a Sears 4-H grant. Members had decided to try cow horse stuff, so Nanette Choquer, and Barry Theissen were booked to come for two days to give a working cow horse clinic. There was a dozen riders, and it worked out perfectly as it was too gloomy to go to Redberry Lake swimming, but perfect to be on horseback and to do some crafts. All learned a tremendous amount, the horses had fun, and everyone can't wait to do it again.
Club member Keltye Blais has been awarded a trip to Toronto this November to the National 4-H Forum, and Codie Yasieniuk has been awarded the Ram Canada, Chrysler Foundation Scholarship.
