It's looking like a great summer for children in Humboldt.
The City of Humboldt and the Family Services - Partners Building Hope (Partners) summer fun clubs are planning for an exciting season.
The City's Summer Fun Club organizers are very excited about the coming season.
"The big thing is we are back in the curling rink after a couple years of having to move around and being shuffled around," explained Jeff Burton of the City program. "It's good to be back home in our little space and not to have to live out of boxes."
He said that will eliminate many of the problems they faced over the past couple of years.
As far as the camp goes, they have lots of exciting activities for the children to enjoy.
"We have got our usual activities in camp and around Humboldt - swimming, bowling and we are going to check out the spray park at least a couple of times this summer," said Burton.
In addition to their usual activities, they have many guests coming in to visit the club.
"The most noticeable being a puppet theatre out of Saskatoon called Wide Open," said Burton. "They are doing an hour performance that will contain six different Robert Munsch stories."
Since it is an exciting event, they will be opening camp up to the public for that event and selling tickets.
Two more exciting guests during camp will be a stormchaser, who will make a presentation on chasing tornadoes and other storms, and native American dancers.
They are working on many other events for the kids that they have not confirmed yet.
The club also now has a Facebook page, where they will highlight all of their major events, have contact information and themes for each week.
Not only will they be doing their regular activities, the club will also be helping the Special Olympics put on a pancake breakfast on June 23 before the Summer Sizzler parade and doing games at the Canada Day celebrations the city will be putting on.
The Partners Summer Club is also gearing up for the season.
"It is all done by theme weeks again this year," said Alyssa Neiman of Partners.
She explained the theme weeks were an exciting part of the club for the children last year.
"There are some a little different this year," said Neiman. "Outer space is a new one. (We will have) the science and dinosaur weeks, which were big hits last year."
Along with their regular crafts and activities, they will also be getting together with the City's club to go bowling and swimming on occasion.
"We are working with the other summer fun program," said Neiman. "We have quite a small budget compared to the other program, although they are fantastic and including us in some of their activities."
The Partners club will be attending both the Robert Munsch puppet show and the stormchaser presentation.
Another change the club has made is extending it so it runs Monday to Friday, five days a week instead of four.
"It is filling up really quickly this year, which is one thing to keep in mind," said Neiman. "We do have one week that is full already."
