It has been estimated that one-third of Canada’s homeless are youth. On any given night 65,000 youth are without a place to call home.

Crystal’s Home opened its doors in North Battleford in 2008. Crystal’s Home provides a supervised living program for female youth ages 12-17 who are unable to remain at home due to child welfare issues.

In partnership, Living Faith Chapel and the ministry through Crystal’s Home are seeing youth holistically cared for and young lives transformed.

Without the many partners who support Crystal’s Home, the home would not be able to provide the care and programming offered.

Guy’s Furniture and their staff have been partners of Crystal’s Home since the service opened in 2008. They have furnished the home with appliances and furniture and most recently, in partnership with Valley Ford, completed a movie and recreation room for the girls.

Generous Christmas donations from the Iverson, Atcheynum, Pruden and Hummeny families have helped complete an art room, provided winter clothing for the teens and have supplied the funds needed to participate in after school programs such as volleyball and dance.

The home received a $500 donation from Western Financial Group that will assist in completion of a music and dance room at Crystal’s Home. The funds will help purchase instruments and electronics and to complete renovations to the room.

A $1,000 donation from the North Battleford SaskTel Pioneers will support the need for a new vehicle that will help transport the teens. We are so thankful for being chosen to receive this generous donation.

Staff also celebrate a $500 action grant received from Eco-Friendly Saskatchewan. The GRUB Garden will be a small space container community garden. This garden will be created by turning recycled wood pallets into useful and innovative garden containers such as raised garden beds, compost bins, window boxes and vertical garden planters.

This creative community garden space will be a gathering place that focuses on nourishing a strong community by empowering youth, and growing good food. It will include a mentorship component, where youth ages eight to 18 will learn about recycling, reducing and repurposing, how to plan an urban garden in small spaces, composting techniques, rain harvesting, nutrition, hunger, non-violent communication, teamwork, leadership skills and how everyday choices can cultivate the spirit of community and have a positive impact on the environment.
