A local man convicted of luring minors over the internet last year will be spending the rest of his conditional sentence behind bars.
On April 4, 2011, after pleading guilty to the charge, Joseph Therres, 63, of Humboldt was convicted of luring minors over the internet and received an 18-month conditional sentence order to serve in the community.
Among the conditions handed down with this jail term was that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 without supervision, and that he possess a computer only for business purposes.
However, a recent investigation by Humboldt RCMP and the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit found Therres to be breaching that last condition.
As a result, Therres was arrested and he appeared in Humboldt Provincial Court on June 19. He was sentenced to serve the remainder of his conditional sentence order in custody in Saskatoon.
As to Therres' original charge, that of luring minors over the internet, a publication ban was issued preventing the release of any details that would identify the child involved.
The offense for which Therres was convicted occurred in 2007. He was charged in July of 2010 after a lengthy RCMP investigation.
Therres was charged under section 172 of the Canadian Criminal Code, which prohibits people from using computer systems to connect with people under or believed to be under the age of 18 for the purpose of committing a sexual assault.
In this case, no actual assault took place.
