NIPAWIN — Three municipalities are joining forces to plan for emergencies.
A new emergency measures organization will include the Town of Nipawin, the RM of Nipawin and the Village of Codette.
“We are going to jointly work together on developing an agreement for this organization, the intent of which is to hire or appoint an individual to the role of regional emergency measures co-ordinator,” said Barry Elliott, the town's administrator. “This is all required under legislation to have one, and we’ve decided to do this as a group as it makes a little more sense. [It's] a little more cost-effective for all of us, and we’re such close neighbors it makes sense to share those elements of the plan.”
The regional co-ordinator will develop the emergency response plan for all of the partners, but each partner will have their own specific plan unique to them.
“This person will make sure all three of the municipalities have complete plans and they’re current.”
At the Jan. 14 council meeting, council appointed Coun. Kerry Skowronski and Elliott to be part of a newly forming emergency measures organization.
