A trial is set for a man facing weapons charges after Battlefords RCMP arrested him last year.

Matthew Greer’s trial will start on Aug. 5 in North Battleford Provincial Court.

Greer and three others were arrested Sept. 2, 2020, during a traffic stop by the Battlefords RCMP gang unit.

Police say they saw occupants of two vehicles “interacting” with each other in a parking lot on Railway Ave. They noticed weapons in one of the vehicles and Greer was known to have an outstanding warrant.

Police searched the vehicle and found cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, a firearm, weapons and a Taser.

Rae Ahenakew, 40, and Shynia Skeavington, 24, of Mosquito First Nation, and Desiree Hinse, 24, of Biggar, were also arrested.

In March Hinse was given a conditional sentence to be served in the community.

Skeavington was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two weapons offences, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Ahenakew was charged with two counts for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and obstructing a police officer. She appears next in court June 28.
