Trio of Canadian bands perform at Tisdale's Rockin’ the Square

The bass was pumping in Tisdale over the weekend as the Tisdale and District Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Rockin’ the Square concert.

The July 7 concert, at the Tisdale Centennial Town Square, was sold out prior to the first band hitting the stage.

“It’s wonderful. We’ve never sold out one yet so this is absolutely fantastic so I’m so happy about that,” said Cindy Crowe, an organizing committee member .

“It just gets better every year. We get to be known a little bit better by a large area so it’s fantastic.”

This year’s concert featured a trio of Canadian rock bands including Headpins, Prism and Honeymoon Suite, with Honeymoon Suite being a late addition after original headliner Kenny Shields and Streetheart were forced to cancel due to a sudden health issue.

Crowe said being able to bring in Honeymoon Suite on just a few days notice was a lifesaver.

“Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I was really thankful that they were able to do that because Kenny Shields really has big shoes to fill, so it was good.”

The concert is a fundraiser for the Tisdale and District Chamber of Commerce, noted Crowe, who says they are currently working on putting new signs on each of the four highways coming into Tisdale.

Currently they are working with the town and are trying to get some ideas and some pricing to figure out what will be going on the signs, said Crowe.

Overall, Crowe was pleased with how the concert went, noting it could not have gone much better, saying the crowds were the best they have ever had, and the bands put on a great show.

Of course the weather also co-operated for them, as well.

“The weather couldn’t have been better if we asked for it. So it’s perfect. Even [after the concert], you could be out here without a jacket on. Even the mosquitoes weren’t that bad.”

Volunteers play a large role in the success of the concert, and this year was no different, said Crowe.

“It takes a lot of volunteers to make something like this work and to have the help that we’ve had and everybody do their job, it’s just fantastic to see.”

Sponsors also play a big role, said Crowe, who noted she would like to thank all of them for their support.

“They make this really happen so I’m really glad for that.”

Looking ahead, Crowe says planning for next year’s Rockin’ the Square will be getting underway within the next couple of months, and said they already have ideas for next year that they will begin working on.
