Two men who were pursued by Saskatchewan and Alberta RCMP after allegedly shooting a man on Onion Lake Cree Nation remain in custody.

Bail hearings for Lucas Aaron Oakes, 24, from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, and Jesse Leigh Heathen, 33, from Lloydminster, were adjourned in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 5. They also had bail hearings scheduled on Aug. 17, Aug. 24 and Sept. 14.

Oakes, Heathen and Montana Horse, 21, of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, were arrested in July after a man was shot on Onion Lake Cree Nation, and then there were two attempted carjackings at gunpoint and one successful carjacking in Lloydminster.

Both Heathen and Oakes were charged with theft of a truck, robbery using a firearm, discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault, uttering threats and flight from police. Heathen was charged with several more offences and Oakes was charged with 15 additional offences, including seven charges in connection to shooting of the man on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Horse was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions. She was wanted by the police at the time of her arrest.

The charges against the three haven’t been proven in court.

The bail hearings for Oakes and Heathen were adjourned to Oct. 8 in Lloydminster Provincial Court. Horse was released on bail in August and is scheduled to appear Oct. 19.

Onion Lake Cree Nation is about 30 kilometres north of Lloydminster and borders Alberta and Saskatchewan.
