A message from Erin Katerynych, executive director of the Empty Stocking Fund and Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre:
Things are in full swing here at the Food Bank and we are super busy. On Monday students from Battleford Central School came and assembled the 450 boxes for the Christmas Food Hampers. Yesterday, half the Grade 7 students from Ecole Monseigneur Blaise Morand came in the afternoon and filled 250 single non-perishable food hampers. Today the other half of the class will come a complete 200 family food hampers.
Today is our last day for regular Food Bank until Jan. 2, 2019. The front is lined up with people waiting to pick up food right now.
Anyone who needs food and did not pick up a Christmas hamper is able to come at 2:30 on Sunday, Dec. 23, with ID and proof of address and pick up a Christmas hamper. We have 415 (428 last year) registered hampers. We are making 450 to ensure we have left overs for Sunday. We have over 750 children, 15 and under to match toys to.
The WPD EMS Elves are at Walmart until 4 p.m. today for the final push for toys.
