MELFORT — The City of Melfort placed second in the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association’s awards for the work done to complete the Wellness Centre. The municipal awards recognize innovation and excellence in local Saskatchewan governments.

RCMP is giving crediting to the public for their help tracking down a suspect accused of attempting to pass counterfeit bills in the Battlefords.

Be on the lookout for phony money. Battlefords RCMP report receiving several complaints from businesses of counterfeit $50 and $100 Canadian currency.

While Poundmaker First Nation band members await the exoneration of Chief Poundmaker, the museum has reason to celebrate. Chief Poundmaker Museum recently took home an award presented by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada.

The federal Department of Justice has announced in a news release that Brenda R. Hildebrandt, Q.C., has been appointed judge of Court of Queen’s Bench, Battleford. Hildebrandt holds an LL.B.

Battlefords MLA Herb Cox rose in the legislature Monday to recognize another major financial boost for the Saskatchewan Hospital New Beginnings campaign.

ST. BRIEUX — St. Brieux’s Bourgault Industries has issued layoff notices to seven per cent of its workforce. In a release, the company said the layoffs will take effect in approximately eight weeks.

MELFORT — The City of Melfort will be trying to get government funding to fix the city’s water loss problem. This year the city has had 45 water line breaks, losing the city 23 per cent of its water.

Battlefords RCMP are inviting members of the public to town hall meetings in Meota and Cochin. The Meota meeting is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Meota Community Centre. Cochin rink hall will host the other meeting at 7 p.m.
