A couple of weeks ago, I wrote in this space about how the standings were very close in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. That’s still the case at the moment, even as the Battlefords North Stars have won 12 straight games.

Some of the best skaters from across the province descended on Humboldt for the Provincial Championships Nov 11-13. Approximately 100 skaters from at least 20 different clubs from across the province competed in a number of competitions.

The senior girls hosted the six-team 4A West Region tournament on Nov. 12 as they welcomed teams from Rosetown, Maple Creek, Saskatoon Christian, Lanigan, and Outlook. The Mohawks kicked off their tournament against Outlook.

After a number of tough losses, the Battlefords Midget AAA Sharks were able to turn the page with an impressive weekend performance in Weyburn.

The puck dropped this weekend on another year of Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League senior hockey throughout the northwest region.

With only three provincial spots up for grabs over the weekend at the SHSAA 5A senior girls’ north region volleyball tournament, the battle among all eight teams was a tense one at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School gym.

The Battlefords North Stars are officially in rarified air.

Battlefords AAA Stars netminder Lance Alm was kept busy Thursday night in Saskatoon. Alm made 64 saves at the Schroh Arena as the Stars dropped a 5-1 decision to the Saskatoon Contacts in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action.

Jr. “B” Girls The St. Dominic Chargers traveled to Wakaw on Nov. 1 for the North West pre-district championship. The Chargers played some solid volleyball moving into the finals, where they dropped a tough decision to the Cudworth Huskies.

The John Paul II Crusaders and the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings senior girls volleyball teams are hoping for a hometown advantage this weekend.
